Synopsis: 5 kids going to after school detention, but only 4 will leave. When Simon, the notorious writer of a gossip app for Bayview High is murdered, these teens lives will change forever. All 4 are suspects.

Bronwyn, the good girl who is part of every club and applying to Yale in the fall. Cooper, your typical jock who is beloved by all. Addy, your cute blonde popular girl dating the hottest guy in school. And Nate, your bad boy who is currently on probation for dealing drugs. But which one of these teens is capable of murder to keep their secrets from being exposed?

I really enjoyed this book. I was a bit hesitant to read it though. I had heard amazing things about it but the fact that it is a young adult murder mystery made me a little bit nervous. I thought it could turn out very cheesy and campy. Boy was I wrong! This book was unreal. It dealt with a lot of social issues that teens are dealing with today which I appreciated. Some of these being the pressures of school and getting into the best colleges, slut shaming, etc. I feel like the author was very open and honest about the way high school kids are treated today and the daily challenges they go through.

This book reminded me of a dark Breakfast Club! You have your good girl honor student, the popular blonde girl, your jock, your outcast bad boy… All the elements for a good story, am I right? I loved how diverse the characters were and how deep their stories went. You really got to know them, as it alternates narrative between all 4 kids being accused of murdering Simon. I won’t lie, I loved all the main characters!

The obvious favorite aspect of this book was the ending. This book kept my guessing and I was constantly changing my mind on who I thought killed Simon. It was stressful! However, I’m so glad I couldn’t figure out the ending. It made it such an enjoyable read for me.

Overall, would 100% recommend this book! I wish I could say more but I wouldn’t have to ruin the fun.
