Favorite book of the series: The Kiss of Deception or The Heart of Betrayal

Synopsis: Lia is the First Daughter of a The House of Morrighan. As First Daughter, she is expected to genetically have the gift of sight, a psychic of sorts. The problem is that, she doesn’t. A sham is formed when her parents decide to marry her off to a neighboring kingdom to form an alliance. When Lia flees her wedding day, she finds a life for herself in a village as a tavern maid. One night, she meets two strangers. Little does she know, one is the jilted prince she left at the alter, and one is an assassin sent to kill her.

First off, my favorite thing about these books was the amount of bad ass female characters. Lia, our main character, is so strong and believes in being independent. In the book’s day and age, this is not something that is normal. Women are still married off, which is the predicament that Lia is in. I love that she flees from her wedding day and chooses to make a life for herself because she does not believe being married to a stranger is the right choice for her. The other female characters show the same strength and independence throughout the books and I love it!

The first book was honestly amazing, I read it so quickly. There’s a big plot twist that I was not expecting. You’ll understand once you read it. The plot across all 3 series was seriously great and there were so many surprises that I gasped at, out loud. I wish I could go more into detail about them, but I want to save some of the magic for you guys. The focus of the series is mainly about war and the conflict between the different kingdoms. There were many twists and turns that I did not anticipate, including how I felt about some of the characters and kingdoms. I was totally engrossed in the world I was reading about. I was consistently intrigued and I powered through the books like you wouldn’t believe. It kept my interest from start to finish.

Finally, I really enjoyed the author’s writing style. I found it to be a very easy read and it flowed extremely well for me. I also love that we got to read the views of all the different characters throughout. It was nice to hear everyone’s opinions and perceptions of the other characters and the events going on.

It’s considered a fantasy series because of the psychic/prophet aspect but I found it more to be a book about the war between neighboring kingdoms. Overall, would absolutely recommend this series! I think it’s a great read for everyone. I wish I could tell you more but that would ruin all of the fun.
